At the Barrie Chess Club, our mission is simple: Chess is for everyone. We are proud to keep our regular club nights entirely free to attend. We believe that financial barriers should never stand in the way of someone learning the game, finding a community, or improving their skills. Whether you are a "seasoned shark" or just learned how the pieces move, our doors at Innisdale Secondary School are open to you at no cost.
However, keeping the club free requires community support. Because we don't charge a weekly door fee, we rely solely on voluntary donations and annual memberships to stay alive. Your contributions are the "fuel" that keeps our clocks ticking by covering:
Venue & Insurance: The essential costs of providing a safe, consistent space for the Barrie community.
Zero-Barrier Entry: Allowing us to provide boards, sets, and teaching for free to students and new players.
Equipment Maintenance: Replacing worn-out tournament sets and maintaining our digital timers.
Affordable Competition: Keeping our CFC-rated tournament fees as low as possible for local players.
If you enjoy our weekly meetings and want to ensure the club remains a permanent fixture in Barrie, please consider a donation. Every dollar goes directly back into the equipment and space you use every Wednesday night.
Thank you for helping us keep chess accessible for all!
